A Designer’s Vision Comes to Life
When I was invited to participate in the 2024 Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home, I knew I wanted to create something special. The guest nook and adjoining bath in this stunning Edgewood home became my canvas for demonstrating how a small space can be transformed into a vibrant, welcoming retreat.
Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places
The charming niche between two closets immediately caught my eye – it was the perfect spot to create a cozy sleeping area. My love for bold design choices led me to feature a striking Mitchell Black wallpaper I’d been admiring, paired with Dunn Edwards’ “The Green Hour” paint. This combination set the stage for a space that proves small rooms can pack a big design punch.
Thoughtful Details & Personal Touches
The room came together through carefully selected pieces that each tell their own story:
- A full-size bed from the Chris Loves Julia Collection at Pottery Barn Kids anchors the space
- Unique handmade throws and pillows from Aloka, crafted from repurposed Indian saris
- A gallery wall featuring pencil sketches by Anita Cowart, my cherished mentor from growing up riding at Heathermoor Farm
- A beautifully updated dresser from Design Supply Shop, enhanced with custom hardware
Local Charm Meets Global Style
To create a truly curated feel, I sourced art and decor from beloved local businesses including:
- Stash
- Ritual Shelter Shoppe
- Tombrello Collective
- Anthropologie
- Target
- At Home
The adjoining bathroom was designed to complement the bedroom perfectly, creating a cohesive guest suite that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
A Call to Embrace Color
This project embodies my design philosophy: life is too short for boring spaces! By mixing unexpected prints, incorporating bold colors, and layering patterns, we created a space that proves small rooms can be both functional and fabulous.
Looking to push the boundaries in your own space? Let’s collaborate to create a design that’s uniquely you. Whether it’s mixing patterns, playing with color, or finding that perfect balance of finishes, I’d love to help bring your vision to life.
